The Problem

The intersection of I-70 and Highway 63, in Columbia, MO is increasingly busy, and dangerous. During peak traffic times there are traffic jams which cause extended commuting times, high frustration levels, and numerous accidents. Concern about these issues has caused support for a proposed alternate route highway to be built.

Proponents of this highway hope to lessen the amount of traffic at the I -70 and 63 interchange, with the result of a lower accident rate and less time spent in traffic by commuters. Opponents of this highway have differing concerns, with environmental, social, and standard of living issues cited as causes for alarm.
